Small Ship Hydrogen Tank won't fill

Rebuilt hydrogen tank on small grid would not fill until world was reloaded...
Found a derelict grinder/welder ship from random encounter. Ground down tank and h2/O2 generator to hack. Made sure ice was in the generator. Tank would not fill. Put new route of small conveyors directly from the generator to the tank, still would not fill. Tried connector to larger ship, still no.
Exited to main menu and reloaded the save and the tank is now filling. Vanilla world/no mods. Star system custom game. Survival.
Core i7 6700k, 16gb 2133, GTX 1080, 500gb SSD, 1440p
