Small Grid Rocket Launcher deals zero damage if attached to large grid via rotor

Ritaelyn shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

Steps:

1. Create a large grid ship with a cockpit and plenty of rocket ammo.

2. Dock to a station via a connector.

3. Build Large Grid Advanced Rotor facing up (yaw rotor).

4. Make rotor have a small grid head.

5. Build conveyor junction.

6. Attach horizontal facing advanced rotor (pitch rotor).

7. Attach as many Reloadable Rocket Launchers to the pitch rotor as you want.

8. Yaw and Pitch your player made turret to aim at a target of light armor.

9. Enable Reloadable Rocket Launcher weapon and select that as your weapon.

10. Fire into the target for one minute.

Results:

Rockets deal zero damage. The rockets successfully fire, impact, and play their explosion animation and sound clip. Rockets use up ammo.

Expected:

Rockets deal the exact same damage as if it is attached directly to a small grid ship. The rockets successfully fire, impact, and play their explosion animation and sound clip. Rockets use up ammo.

Notes:

No matter how many reloadable rocket launchers I use, they deal zero damage. Even using just one rocket launcher deals zero damage.

I just undocked from my static grid station and the rocket launchers are able to deal damage now. Whenever I dock up to the static grid station they are unable to deal damage.

I'm also firing on armor plates that are connected to the same static grid station. That grid is a large grid ship that docked to an asteroid base station then converted to station to keep it static.

I've not tested firing on an unconnected non-static ship at all. I recommend in investigating this bug testing all these permutations as well.

Hello, Ritaelyn,

thanks for sharing your issue with us.

I followed your steps and build similar construction as on the screen, and my rocket launchers on the ship, connected to the base, were dealing damage and destroying blocks in the target platform and also killed me when tried to be in a way of the firing rockets.

From the image, I see that you are using some mods. Can you confirm that this issue is happening on a vanilla (without mods) game as well? If this behavior is not reproducible even for you on vanilla game, then it would be connected to some mod functionality, I´m afraid.

If yes, and you can reproduce it on vanilla game as well, can I please ask either for your game save file or at least blueprint of your ship/base, so I can try it on my own on your build? Maybe it something in the construction that I did not do on my build.

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Hi Ondrej,

I was shooting at targets on the grid I was connected to. It turns out the reloadable rocket launcher dealing zero damage is expected behavior when you have "enable subgrid damage" unchecked and "friendly fire" unchecked. I have those settings unchecked in my save file.

I'm able to damage ships and other players normally.

In reporting this bug though it turns out Gatling Guns ignore those two settings: enable subgrid damage and friendly fire. Gatling guns are able to damage the friendly grid they are docked with regardless if those settings are checked.

Steps:

0. Ensure in settings subgrid damage is disabled and friendly fire is disabled.

7. Attach as many Gatling Guns to the pitch rotor as you want.

8. Yaw and Pitch your player made turret to aim at a target of light armor that is ON the connected grid.

9. Enable the Gatling Gun weapon and select that as your weapon.

10. Fire into the target.

Results:

Gatling guns deal damage to the target grid ignoring the "subgrid damage" and "friendly fire" flags.

Expected:

Gatling guns should deal zero damage just like rocket launchers deal zero damage when attacking a grid you're connected to when subgrid damage is turned off and "friendly fire" is turned off.

Should I create a new bug report for this or are you able to handle it from here?

Hello, Engineer!

it´s already quite long time from when this issue was originally posted as well as from the last comment.

Are you still experiencing it? Or was it fixed in the meantime.

Thanks in advance for confirming me current situation.
