Ship movement sounds TOO loud and abrupt

The movement sound of ships are too loud and make doing anything on a moving ship that involves Talking virtually impossible, how can I communicate with freinds when the ship noise drowns it out? also the sounds are too abrupt and dissapate immdeiately when one stops thrusting.
