Sensors do not detect ship or player when player in ship

Sensors appear to not correctly register a player when player is in a cockpit/seat. I built an automatic light system which turns lights on/off depending on what is within the sensor area. System works fine, until I enter a ship, at which point the lights turn off, assuming I'm no longer there.

I am not using Detect Ships/Subgrids because otherwise the lights are always on when I have an idle vehicle in the area, and drone systems dont need lights.
