Sensor Detect Subgrid - Station subgrids are large ships

Fable shared this bug 4 years ago
Won't Fix

I had a sensor attached to a large ship trying to detect a piston with connector for docking.

Large ship->sensor: detect subgrid | connector<-piston<-station.

I fired up a script to see what it was detecting and sure enough the sensor detected the connector as type:large ship rather than type: subgrid. Checking info tab on the connector shows it's a a ship, which is reasonable considering it's connected to a piston and stations can't move.

As far as I can tell, this isn't a bug, but lack of a detailed description. "Detect sub-grids" is implemented as "detect a sub-grid of the sensor's grid". I use it to trigger actions after docking and undocking and it does it's job well.

I assume what you try to achieve is an auto-locking connector and I remember two simple options that would work:

  1. Like the landing gear, the connector is outfitted with an auto-connect option. You could then reliably use your sensor set to sub-grid to be notified of the established connection or a disconnect.
  2. Similar to sensors or air vents the connector would trigger an action when it turns yellow. Usually it would trigger a lock with the station, but could also trigger a timer block for more elaborate actions.

I had sensor set up as you described. Everything worked well until last update maybe update before. After that the function detect subgrid doesn't work anymore with connector. I don't use any mod or script.

Hello, Dave,

I did try to have and perform some actions with sensor and subgrids, but all was working fine for me. Can you please share more info? Any steps to reproduce, what exactly are you trying to do (trigger) with the sensor etc... ?

Can I please have a video of this issue happening to you? That is always the best, as in text, there could be some misunderstandings. Also if you can share me the blueprint of the grid/ship where you have it already broken, that would be great help!

Thanks in advance for those information and files.

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.
