Seam connect url from steam overlay does not connect properly

To prevent having to load the Server List every time I want to connect to my own DS for Testing, I attempted using the steam://connect/ip:port string from the Steam Overlay. When doing so the system connects, and loads into the world, however, the player is in an spectator/admin mode state, and the 'Game Paused' message appears at the top of the screen, I can move around, but again, stuck in the spectator mode.
Pressing F5 to reload / reconnect resolves the issue, but defeats the purposes of using that process. I have not tried using a desktop shortcut, but that wouldnt work for me as I'd have to be out of the game completely
