Respawn stuck on one site

As far as I can tell this bug has persisted since the release of the new respawn system.
Here is the situation, on a multiplayer server I build a base on a planet with a respawn. I build a ship with a respawn. I launch from the planet in my ship and start a base in space. I log-off next to my ship in space with the respawn, but when I log-in I respawn on the planet. I disable the base respawn and suicide and end up at my space respawn.
My understanding is that when I die/log-off my primary spawn should be the nearest respawn site. That should have been my launch vehicle with the respawn on it.
