Problem with frame drops

Kampfnille shared this bug 3 years ago
Solved

Hi there,

my problem is that after about 10-15 minutes in the game, my frames go down.

I have a constant 120 FPS until the drop. then they break down to 10-15 FPS.

I tested it with and completely without mods.

last test was a new world, "earth like" completely without mods. I just stood around for about 15 minutes and even then the error occurred.

The funny thing is that when the FPS are at 10-15, they go up again when I tab out of the game. then I have 120 fps again. when I tab in again, they go back down to 10-15 fps.

I really have no more ideas what could be the problem.

I have already uninstalled the graphics card driver with ddu and installed an older, stable driver. to rule out that the latest gpu driver has or is causing errors.

i received the tip to deactivate the grass via a steam discussion, without success.

furthermore it makes no difference whether I start a world with the finished station, on earth, or a star system world.

every time my fps go down to 10-15 & the gpu goes to idle.

my system:

ryzen 7 3700X

32gb corsiar RAM

Radeon 6700XT

last log file:

https://pastebin.com/raw/9KhWagJb

in the game the cpu is at about 20% load. the RAM is around 40% & the graphics card is around 70%.

all temperatures are within limits. CPU maximum 70 °, GPU about 50-60 °.

Hello, Kampfnille!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Firstly, is this happening in every game mode? For example, does this happen in everything you attempt to play in Space Engineers? You mentioned 15 minutes, would you say that it doesn't start until 15 minutes? Do you think this is more that you've been playing however long and it starts or are you possibly doing the same thing each time that causes it? Are you getting the same thing happen in any other games? I appreciate you have tried the grass settings, what happens if you lower the graphical settings? I would first suggest looking at our first steps as quite often these can help as a great first basis. Please let me know how you get on.

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

/bfSnH0rGoN-NgctSWBJN3LfvWZvgnfye9BrPgucxV0n8TDpNc-7yZYwSifdRXyl1quu20KGUNmHzSf6VGRbhWS4a_EYn2MclxJSOz6eVarmz-fhTWVaofVOAVZN_l_leF9dgQ5GF

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file
  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Kind Regards

Hey Laura,

1. Integrity Check -> without errors

2. ShaderCache & SpaceEngineers.cfg are deletet

Game test: the same error as before, no change

3. deletet the space engineers roaming folder

Game test: the same error as before, no change

4. restarting steam & reinstall VC Reddist 2017

Game test: the same error as before, no change

5. update graphic drivers, deinstalled game, restart pc.

6. reinstall the game

Game test: the same error as before, no change

all game tests were tested with low graphic settings and in an "empty world".

every time the fps went down after 10-15 minutes in the game

any other ideas ?! :(

Hello, kampfnille!

Thank you for your feedback. Could you confirm if this happens in any other games?

Also, could you check your CPU/GPU temperatures when you then start to get the lag happen? Just in case you are experiencing any thermal throttling at this point. I know you mentioned it was in range but interested to see if there is a change at the lag point (unless this is what you were referencing)

Kind Regards

hello laura,

the cpu temperature is at a maximum of 70 ° and goes down a bit after the leg. the GPU behaves similarly, only there is the temperature at max 50 °.

after the lag, the load on cpu and gpu goes to idle.

as already mentioned, the frames go down to 10-15 permanently.

other games are totally inconspicuous and run stably.

as an example: escape from tarkov, oxigen not included, eurotruck simulator, farming simulator

they all run without problems

Hello, kampfnille!

Thank you. You say that this does not happen when you alt tab. If you move the mouse out of the game do you experience full FPS again? I say this because we had a similar thread here https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/framerate-capped-at-16-fps and the user kept going back down to 16FPS and I wonder if this is similar to you.

hey laura,

when the lag happens, the frames go down.

when I tab out of the game, the game goes back to over 100 fps.

when I tabbed back into the game, the frames go down again.

Hello, kampfnille!

This sounds very similar to the thread mentioned. Could you please share a save in which you are experiencing the issue and also a copy of your cfg. file?

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind Regards

hey laura,

attached, the save.

I think I found the bad guy.

FRAPS: D

I started space engineers to reproduce the mistake.

when starting the pc I had an error message from fraps that it would have problems with DirectX9.

after 20 minutes in the game i had no error.

I left the game and started FRAPS manually.

I started SE again and lo and behold, there was the error again, after about 13 minutes the frames went down.

I left the game again and closed FRAPS.

I started SE again and after more than 20 minutes in the game I had no error.

now i will start a new world and play SE normally without FRAPS running in the background.

I will keep you up to date here whether the error has occurred again.

thanks anyway for the tips and the help.
