Possible memory leak on rejoining multiplayer server

Dante Marshal shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

My game is crashing when I try to rejoin (Join when my player is alive) in a multiplayer vanilla server without any mods.

What actually happens is that my GPU Dedicated memory suddenly fills up to my 4GB limit after the loading screen with quotes disappears and server's MotD is displayed (Perhaps when the textures start loading ?)

This happens while I have no problem logging in when my player is not alive and the "Respawn" screen appears.

Lowering graphics settings (Texture quality specifically) is a workaround.

I attached log files from one of my crashed runs.

Now I'm having the same issue except without the GPU memory filling up. Someone with permissions please change the topic, cuz it seems like texture memory is not the reason of this crash.

Here are the logs

Once again, It started crashing after I was kicked out due to a connection error.

But this time, I got a Blue-Screen with the error "Driver IRQL Not less or equal"

I have an Asus FX570UD Laptop with the following spec :

CPU : Intel Core i7 8550U

Integrated GPU : Intel UHD 620

Dedicated GPU : NVidia GTX 1050

NVidia Driver Version : 457.63

DirectX runtime Version : 12

Hello, Dante!

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue. Could I ask if this is happening in multiple servers or, just the one?

I would first start with the below steps. Please let me know how you get on with these.

  • Verify your game files in Steam
  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

/bfSnH0rGoN-NgctSWBJN3LfvWZvgnfye9BrPgucxV0n8TDpNc-7yZYwSifdRXyl1quu20KGUNmHzSf6VGRbhWS4a_EYn2MclxJSOz6eVarmz-fhTWVaofVOAVZN_l_leF9dgQ5GF

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file
  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Kind Regards

Hi

I did all of the above (Except updating the OS which I had problems doing)

But it was about a month ago and I realized that the problem was because my base was built inside an asteroid.

The Voxels were touching the mesh a lot.

Spawning in other places then going to that base seems to be fine but Spawning right in the middle of such base seems to crash the game.

I'm not having that problem anymore since I moved out of that base and grinded it all down.

But that could mean a bug or a place for optimization.

And about your question, It was only happening in a particular server where I have built a base with the spec I said above. Other spawns in the same server worked correctly. And the server was Vanilla.

Hello, Dante!

Thank you for the update and explanation of what you found. I appreciate you have said that you have moved out of that base now. If you come across this issue again, please do not hesitate to let us know and please provide your save file and/or blueprint if possible for us to look into :) I will close this thread for now.

Kind Regards
