Paint wont work

I am playing on a private server and for some reason I am the only one who cant use paint. I am able to paint or skin new blocks, but ones placed down already wont paint for me. Also my friend who is also on this server doesn't always see objects in the refinery but I am able to see them and interact with them. For example he could not see cobalt 'cooking' in the refinery but I was able to see it.
