NPC faction rep: not possible to befriend multiple NPC Factions
Reported
Attempting to get to 'friendly' status with multiple NPC factions on Keen public server CA#2.
I achieved friendly status (rep higher than +500) with one NPC faction. When I take hauling contracts from a second faction, the destination is often to an NPC faction that is now UN-friendly to me (faction rep lower than -500) because of the rep penalty from befriending the first faction. I'm not able to access the contract block to complete the hauling contract.
Hello, hobbes409,
thanks for letting us know about your concern and we are sorry that you are experiencing it in a first place.
However, when I did try it, I found nothing wrong with the faction-friends system. Please see the images to prove that I have befriended three (four, ono on top of the list) factions without any problem.
Can I ask if this issue is one-timer, or you experience it for longer period of time?
You say you are experiencing it in MP (CA #2 server). So I take it you can not send any save or something so I can take a closer look on your situation... ? Are you also experiencing this issue in single-player game? That would help tremendously as you could send me the save file.
I would appreciate any more information you can share (video, describe the situation in more detail, steps to reproduce... ).
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards

The basic problem is the reputation changes by doing jobs. E.g. an acquisition will give you +4 to the one faction where you did the job, +1 to all its friends, but also -5 to all its enemies (other job types almost proportional). Sadly you can't see who is enemy of whom, but you can observe all the rep before and after doing a job (when all of them are discovered).
On world creation those relations are randomly picked. But most of them have more than 2 enemies, and can't have more than 10 friends to compansate the rep. So by doing jobs the average rep over all factions can only drop.
You first need to do gain this info (example from DE#6 attached), and then you can plan to befriend 2 or 3 of them. Always having in mind, that this will mean become enemy to most of the others. And you then only do jobs according to your planning, and not as a "freelancer".
For me personally this rep system seems unbalanced and kills most of the fun with trading and jobs. But this is how it works.

I'm still having this issue... a simple change would be to reduce the penalty to unfriendly NPC factions. For example, it should be:
I do a contract for +4 with NPC 1.
I get +1 for NPC 2 which is friendly with 1.
I get -3 for NPC 3 which is enemy with 1.
This way, at least I can reverse the reputation loss with NPC 3 if I choose to, but with a -5 penalty factions become unfriendly faster than I am able to reverse no matter how much time I spend running missions. If I try to regain reputation with one, I quickly lose everything I've built up with a previous one.
