Missiles dealing internal damage without damaging exterior first

Benton Pellet shared this bug 4 years ago
Solved

Missiles appear to have their damage rendered inside ships, and are bypassing the exterior. This can be replicated by simply having one grid fire upon another (large ship grid) and you’ll notice the exterior wont be anywhere near as shredded as the interior. Cockpits are being knocked out whilst plenty of armour remains (in some cases no exterior damage at all) and internals are being cored with very little to no damage on the exterior armour.

In it’s current state the game is unplayable for PvE and PvP. I sincerely hope this issue is being addressed as its relatively new.

This post has far more evidence on the matter: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general/topic/191-023-missiles-teleport-through-ship-armor-not-stations?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app

This issue has been there for a while now. From the tests me and my friends have done, we concluded that armor provides a little protection for you. For example.: Lets say you have 2 layers of heavy armor and some Hydrogen Tanks under that armor. Shot one missile at that grid, and you will find that Heavy armor has sustained minimal damage, while Hydrogen Tank block health has been knockdown to 88%. Meanwhile, if the grid is converted to station, the damage does not pass through the armor.

I believe this was intentional, as to provide more realistic experience. Your damaged/warped armor should transfer some of the damage to the blocks next to it. It makes sense. But the ratio of how much damage blocks receive under that protection is way too high in my opinion. Wrapping your grid with gift paper provides more protection than armor blocks.

What doesn't make sense, that the same rule does not apply to grids that are in station mode. That's way some people can exploit that. During a fight, you can just simply stop to a 0 m/s, convert your grid to station and watch how your enemy gets shredded while you perfectly safe (assuming that your ship has sufficient amount of armor and your turrets strategically positioned for this type of move). Of course, this method has huge downsides, but if executed properly it can be useful technique.

I do wonder if the missile is detonating too slow (thus flying through the wall prior to detonation)...

I don't think it's intentional, given that stations don't have this issue, keen has also said that issue mostly resolves itself if you slow missile speeds to 100m/s.

Keen maybe fix gamebreaking bug? Maybe pay more attention to the 107 votes this topic has? Maybe replicate the easy step by step method that has been given?

I can load up a game within 5 minutes and show keen how this glitch is gamebreaking:
