Managed to turn on symmetry mode in multiplayer survival without being admin

Essentially the title. I am playing whatever the newest steam version is as of today with no DLCs or addons / workshop content. I am playing on a dedicated server hosted with the vanilla client on my own machine. I am not an admin on the server and creative tools are disabled. Somehow I managed to turn on symmetry mode though and could not turn it off without a full restart of the game.
In the screenshot below, notice that the symmetry button does not appear to be toggled. I was able to toggle it several times (didn't know what it did) but then it stopped toggling at all.
