LCTRL key rebind no longer works

Solved

I have always been able to rebind the Left Control Key [LCTRL] for crouching and down.


I am not sure exactly when it was broken, but it was either the 1st or the 2nd hotfix.


Down does work via flight

Crouch does not work with the rebound key of LCTRL

Just come back to the game after a while of being away, cannot use Left Control to crouch at all either. works fine when bound to any other key, but not when using Left Control. This post by Redditor: Igetitcsu pointed me to hotfix 193.022 where they say:

| -Fixed character crouching down even on a successful Ctrl+C

After some testing, it looks like the crouch function is disabled whenever Left Control is down. You can bind crouching to any other key, and if you're press it while holding Left Control, the couch function doesn't fire. Unfortunately, I do feel like this a short-sighted way to fix the problem, which for a lot of people wasn't even an issue (I myself use Right Control for anything that needed my to hold a Control key (even had Right Control bound to my mouse for this and other games), and thus using Left Control never caused me this issue). It's a real shame as it's by far the most convenient and commonly used key, not just for me but for a wide selection of players out there.

A more competent and compliant way to fix this would have been to include a check when suppressing the crouch function to only do so if it's not bound to Left Control key or the Right Control key, and that’s an easy fix for the Dev's to implement.

This is a game, not an office application, the copy function is going to have a way less frequent use count than the crouch function, and in my experience, if not most then certainly a HUGE number of games use Left Control to crouch, kinda surprised Space Engineers doesn't by default.

That's brilliant, thanks, using a workaround keybind has caused many a mishap in-game, it's going to be so great using a more familiar and comfortable bind again :D
