Latest Hotfix 0.197.074 SVN breaks Load Game dialog

GBee shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

Immediately following the update to 0.197.074 the Load Games dialog lists no saves. I only see an empty list. Rolling back to last available Beta branch in steam, everything works again and I can see the saved games.

I was playing immediately prior to the update being released, exited to take a break, steam downloaded and installed the update. I started the game again and encountered the issue.

Rolling back to 1.196 - Server Optimisations branch (Steam Betas) and I can again see the save games on the Load Game page, though I've not tried playing those saves under the older version as I'm using Wasteland DLC/Update blocks.

My Saves also no longer show up in the latest version. In addition, I get the 'You need to be logged in with an user account in order to be able to join an online session' error when attempting to load the server browser menu. I'm on version 1.197.074 SVN. I have tried completely restarting steam, checking for steam updates, rebooting my computer, verifying integrity of game cache, and switching to a beta and back.

Attached is my log file.

Ended up discovering that SE and Steam were not working together correctly, as in SE it showed steam as offline. Ended up reinstalling steam and I am now on 1.197.074 default.

Hello Ggoodbboy,

does it work at this moment? It looks like an outage on the Steam side.

Can someone tell me how to roll back to the previous build?

-edit- Nevermind, got it.

I have the same problem. Looking at the log files from yesterday vs today it does appear that SE is not acknowledging my Steam account.

Lines from the log files from yesterday that are missing from logs today:

I have restarted the computer and verified the game files with Steam. Reverting to branch 1.196 did allow me to see the game files.

Could you please reinstall steam and let us know if it helps? Steam link is here - https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/client/installer/SteamSetup.exe

As we updated Steamworks SDK to newest version (because of the Steam API update that requires it) there could be some conflicts in rare situations.

Thank you.

Reinstalling Steam did not solve the issue.

When I create a new world file, it saves it under the offline user ID, 1234567891011. And in the game there is a red box at the top right that says that Steam is offline.

I have reinstalled Steam, making sure the Steam files were deleted in the process. I also reinstalled the game files and used Steam to "verify integrity of game files." After this didn't work, I deleted the folders mentioned above. When I run the game, it still does not show that I am logged in to Steam, and I cannot see my saves or mods I have subscribed to.

I probably should have mentioned sooner that I am running SE under Wine, and the environment being emulated is "Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (Microsoft Windows NT 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2)". I would be happy to use a different Wine prefix if it would work; took me long enough as it was to get it running.

Is there a way to roll back to a specific minor version? Steam lets me revert to branch 1.196 using the "Betas" option, but that's quite a ways back. The last working version for me was 1.197.073. When I tried loading game files in 1.196, it said because the world was from a newer version, it could cause the world to be unstable.

Thanks for the ideas so far.

Benjamin - Backup your saves first, then delete the compatdata directory. /path/to/steamapps/compatdata/244850/

Then run Space Engineers once, install dotnet48 etc as you did originally, copy back your save games to the compat directory after all that it should work.

Reinstalling SpaceEngineers did ultimately fix the issue for me, albeit with the irritation of having all my graphics settings reset. (No Steam cloud backups?)

@GBee - thanks for the suggestion. The prefix I had been using had dotnet472, as I had followed this guide to set up SE in the first place: https://youtu.be/0Yo1Ls7AaWo

However, after doing a complete reinstall of SE and the prefix as you suggested, it still does not connect my Steam account. I verified in the log files that it was using the newer version of the dotnet framework that I installed this time around.

For what it's worth, when setting up the Wine prefix again, it warned me that dotnet48 has been broken since Wine version 5.18, and I'm running 6.0. What version of Wine are you using?

I have done all of the following from this advice, and nothing worked:

(furthermore, I deleted the saves from the offline user ID folder, leaving only the saves from my actual ID, but that didn't work as well)
