Laser antennas unable to connect

Single player, I have two stations, one on the planet's surface, and the other in space, about 44 km apart. All blocks on both stations are owned by Me, and both have sufficient power. Both have their laser antennas set to 50km range. I try to connect one to the other, and all it says is "Searching for a laser at GPS coordinates" and then never connects. I have tried removing and replacing both antennas, and tried connecting from either end, with no luck. I was able to connect to another laser antenna in close proximity (under 1 km), however, and maintain that connection as I moved past 10km.
