Large Explosion freezes game

Echthros shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

While working on a mod, I noticed an issue with both explosions (MyExplosions.AddExplosion()) or calls to IMyCubeGrid.GetBlocksInsideSphere() over 300m radius. Triggering either at that size around several grids results in the game's main thread locking up for several minutes (things continue to render in the background, but nothing can move, player included). This doesn't seem to be just a performance issue, since it resolves almost instantly below a certain threshold. But past a certain size, it gets stuck processing something for ages.

I observed this issue when testing various explosions on grids (large grid, ~100 blocks) in space. The issue does not trigger unless at least one grid is caught in the radius of the explosion/query.

Hello, Alec,

thanks for letting us know about this issue.

Can you please provide more information about this issue that you are experiencing?

Can you provide video of this issue happening, save file or blueprint and some decent steps to reproduce, please?

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Can this issue be also observed in the game that has absolutely no mods?

Kind Regards

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.
