Hotfix Patch (01_194_081) - Dedicated Server - Exception while loading world

Apologies I'm fairly new to running SE-DS so this may be a common hiccup, but after today's Hot Fix for falling through the world our server started crashing on startup with:

2020-03-25 00:24:41.158: Exception while loading world: Unable to cast object of type 'VRage.Game.MyDefinitionBase' to type 'Sandbox.Definitions.MyCubeBlockDefinition'.

The only changes that have occurred are:

1. 081 HOTFIX, though server started crashing before the dedicated server was updated.

2. Server started failing on first reboot following an active play session, but no obvious errors.

3. One mod updated VCZ Multifloor Elevator, but it's not in use currently and removing it did not resolve the issue.

I did a couple of basic debugging steps:

1. Restarted Server (Windows 10)

2. Tried loading older (previously working) save files from long before the failure first occurred, but all fail in the same way.

3. Checking for any unusual file locks, disk space, etc.

4. Audited the log files before and after, there's lots of errors and some distinct patterns, but don't know the object structure well enough to recognize which, if any, is source of problem and why older files don't work.

Note: Most of my files are too large so I'm just uploading the log files for now. If there's a specific game file I can send, let me know.

Clarification, after the HOTFIX I was unable to load any save file including previous ones. But the first crash occurred while still running 080, pre-patch.

I originally thought the HOTFIX caused the first crash, but dedicated server didn't auto-update.

I continued testing with the following notable outcomes:

I uninstalled and reinstalled all MODs, no change to error.

I started up a brand new blank worldlserver instance to start isolating the cause. This instance failed to start with the same error.

In order to unblock my friends I eventually ended up completely uninstalling both SE Clent (on the server) and SE DS and reinstalling. After completion the original failing game file started up instantly without any issues.

I don't know the exact rollout time of the hotfix updates, but is it possible that steam would have updated the client while the server was running? Are there any dependencies between the client install and the DS install? There were several files in the client that had date times similar to the first client crash. But they were mostly caches and figured they just never updated again after crash reboot cycle started.

I'll hold onto all my game and log files for a bit in case you want more info from them.

Thanks,

Barney

Hi, My dedicated server had this same issue.

I just verified the gamefiles within Steam, and it reported that 3068-ish files were not verified.

Steam then went on to download 75Mb of files, and now the server starts right back up.

Hope this helps :)

I can confirm that Edwin's suggestion fixed the issue.

In your library, right click "Space Engineers Dedicated Server" Goto "Properties" and under the "Local Files" tab hit "Verify Integrity of Tool Files..."

Let it do it's thing and it re-downloads messed up files.

Not sure how that gets out of whack, but it worked.
