Grid center of mass only updates when blocks are placed, not removed

Short story:

My truck trailer was detached and fell forward on its face since the center of mass was improperly set in front of the trailer piston (I believe other people have reported incorrect center of mass positions when merging/connecting, which was likely the cause). To upright the trailer, I made a long lever on the back side of the trailer, put a drill on the end, and filled it with stone. This worked, but removing the drill left the center of mass in the wrong place (see visual diagram below).
