Gamepad/ Joystick is Permanently Disabled in Settings

I can launch the game in Big Picture with no issues using my xbox one controller till the new update was released. Now the controller setting is disabled and despite trying to opt the xbox 360, it still registers disabled in-game.

This may be a STEAM issue, steam has noticed that a lot of games were working great with gamepads so therefore they decided to fix that by adding an abstraction layer between your gamepad and the game. This affects pretty much all games. For Space Engineers, I found that going to the properties menu and selecting both gamepad related options to FORCED OFF. Once that is done, it may be possible to enable gamepad support again in the game. This advice probably won't work for you because steam really is that broken right now. Having done this though, you will be confronted by the fact that version 1.193 essentially broke gamepad support and Keen seems to have no interest in going back so therefore you will probably have to force your version to 1.192 or earlier, before they broke the uranium fuel cycle that most ships rely on.
