Game won't start

Solved

I haven't played Space Engineers for a bit, and after re-downloading it, SE will not start. Steam opens the little black box saying it is starting and then disappears. SE then idles in Task Manager at about 27.2 MB in memory. I have tried redownloading SE, verifying Cash files, making sure that Microsoft. Net is up to date, with countless PC restarts. haven't tried redownloading steam or windows cause that's a pain but I am willing, plz help.

Hello Thomas!

I appreciate you have tried to verify the files. We usually start with the following which includes a number of steps to try first (including verifying) Could you please try all of these and see if the game will then start for you?

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Thank you for taking interest in my post, I have verified the game files, deleted the roaming data, and then verified the files. I have backed the files up, and then restarted steam. I have installed VC Redist 2019, I hope that works too. I have deleted and re-installed my up-to-date drivers from NVIDIA, I have re-installed SE a few times, and Windows says it's up to date. SE is still launching into the steam black box and then idling, though steam says it is running. what can I do next?

Hello Thomas!

Thank you for the extra information. Whilst looking at the log, it appears that there is a newer Windows update compared to what you have (Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.19041.0) If you can check your Windows updates again. Also, what GPU are you using? Just to rule that out too.

I apparently had some Windows updates, and am currently downloading them, I have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, and I have updated those drivers. I will post if my situation changes because of the Windows updates.

I updated everything optional except for some printer drivers, and windows update says I am up to date. yet SE still behaves the same.

Hello Thomas!

Can you please put the attached config file in - Path: C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers

The error is mentioning 'Config file not found! C:\Users\Tom\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.cfg' I have attached mine for you. Please try this and then starting the game.

After putting the SpaceEngineers.cfg in the SE folder, I got a different log, but the game still isn't launching. I posted an old one from today without the file and the new one with the file. Also I won't have access to my computer for about a week so if you anymore suggestions, I can try them tomorrow, otherwise I will have to come back to this in about a week. Thank you for all your help so far.

Hello Thomas!

Can you please run event log after the crash and copy the information from it? We can take a look at that as it may be corresponding to another users thread.

I fixed it, I don't know what was wrong, but I did a soft reset of windows on my computer, I told it to keep my files, but all steam games and applications were deleted, after letting it re-install, I downloaded SE as a last ditch effort, and it ran, it now consistently runs and runs well. Thank you for your help Laura, hopefully this can help someone else that has this situation, though it is tedious. I will say, when I still had the problem, SE didn't run in any version except the 9dx - 32 bit which did run, weirdly.
