Game does not close

Randy shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

Using steam to launch the game, bought on steam.

After playing a while, the only option I see to exit is an exit to main menu screen. The game will pause forever on "Unloading world" or some such wording. I have to force close the game using task manager a few times before its actually closed. You have some sort of infinite loop going on somewhere. Sometimes I forget to check to see if my end task actually did that and it eats up a few cores doing that loop.. If I didn't have 24 cores like most other people it could become a problem for people.

I see that there are several other people with the problem. You have to be playing the game for a number of hours for this bug to show up. I'm a software developer with tools as well. I can attach visual studio and try and figure this out.

Hello, Randy,

thanks for letting us know about the issue that you are experiencing and we are sorry about it.

We had some issues with this every now and then, but not in recent times that we know of.

Does this affect only one specific save that you are playing on, or does it happen for you on all tried/started games? Are you able to save the game normally? Are you playing single player, or any type of multiplayer (Lobby, dedicated server, public server?) Are you able to share me the affected save file, please?

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Some more investigation from your side would be appreciated, if that won´t bother you much :)

Thanks in advance for any more info you can share or provide.

Kind Regards

I've only first started to play after many years of not playing.

Its a single player game, experimental mode and 2 or 3 simple block mods. Though it happened before I enabled both mods and experimental mode, at least I think. I've also verified all files with steam, no change.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YJdOWtbh6UHkAKgQh5D721kjSiziUT0c/view?usp=sharing Contains some logs and the save file folder. Ignore any attached to this ticket as I put the wrong log file in it, but you can look at that too if it contains anything.

I've made changes to some game settings that seem to help with the issue. I'll report back on my findings when I can.

Some relationship when I have Graphics options, Grass draw distance 4999, Grass density 10, Tree draw distance 10000m to the problem occurring. When I didn't have these settings like this I didn't have the issue, though I'll keep testing.

Happens less often when as mentioned above.. but not completely.

Don't know if this helps. Looks like a game render loop. But its not exiting as requested.

Hello, Randy,

currently we have more threads regarding this ("Unloading world") error.

Even though I was not able to reproduce the exact issue you are mentioning here (even with the "broken" graphical settings) on the save you provided. The fix should be introduced in the next hotfix. It might, but might not solve the issue for you as well. Please let me know if it is fixed after the hotfix is out.

If it will be still broken and you have some more info you can share, please do :) It would be much appreciate.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind Regards
