Friend connection issue

Riley Smith shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix
Hello, a friend and I have been able to connect to each other for a long time with it working fine. Now when either one of us goes to join it will say, "Joining World", but doesn't actually join. We are on experimental and this acts the same with or without mods. I also found out that I do not have a spaceengineers.log folder or file in the roaming section.

Hello, Riley!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. A log would be best for us to see the issue you are facing when you are unable to join. Could you please take another look and the log file should be in appdata > roaming > space engineers and in there you will find quite a few (depending on how often you play) text files that begin with 'SpaceEngineers' followed by quite a few numbers. If you open one up, you'll see it starts with a time and 'Thread: 1 -> Log Started'

Please attach this for us to look at from when the issue occurs :)

Kind Regards

Hello,

I think I have found the logs based on the description and have attached them to this comment. Thank you for helping.

Hello, Riley!

Thank you for this. Just to gather a little more information, is this in a particular world, or does it not matter? For example, if you started a fresh world or your friend did, would you get the same result? Does either of you have the same issue joining an official server rather than a locally hosted one?

Hello,

So we have tried multiple different worlds and also created new ones with or without mods. We have not tried to join any official servers yet, I will try that soon.

Hello, sorry for replying with this so late. I was able to connect to official servers just fine without any problems.

Hello, RIley!

Thank you for the update. I've been doing a bit of digging to see if I can find anything relating to this and speaking to a colleague. We wonder if it is caused by a possible firewall? It's a suggestion as you commented that you have no issue connecting to an official server which should rule out any internet issues as if you had these, we would expect you to have a problem connecting to these. Unfortunately, the posts I have come across don't quite fit your scenario. Is it possible that you could check your firewall? Can you connect via join game or screen invitations? Please try both options and let us know. Can you also try different lobby visibilities? Friends/public/private and see if this makes any difference at all.

Kind Regards

Hello, I have not been able to try the lobby visibilities, but I have been able to check my firewall and it says the space engineers is allowed through. I will try the lobby visibilities when I can. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello, Riley!

Have you since been able to try the lobby visibilities? Thank you for checking the firewall.

The lobby visibilities didn't seem to affect they outcome, but what I might be able to try is connecting to other people that I haven't seen this problem with.

Hello, I did finally manage to get around to having someone else join, and it appears that other people work fine. I will try to have the original person try join again.

Hello, Riley!

Sorry to bother you again. We usually close threads after 14 days so wanted to check to see if you've had a chance to look at this or if you would prefer it to be closed if you no longer have the issue :)

Hello, I have been able to connect to others so I am going to get in touch with the person I wasn't able to to see if the issue is still there.

Sorry for the wait.

Hello, Engineer!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.
