DS view distance locked to 3km

Solved

Hey,

since the recent air tightness update, the view distance on my dedicated server seems to be locked to 3000 m. There is no way to set the view distance in the DS-GUI, only the sync distance can be set. Grids and asteroids only become visible when the player is within 3000 m of those objects and the server info on the ingame servers list confirms that the view distance is set to said value.

When changing the view distance in the DedicatedServer.cfg and Sandbox.sbc, the DS will overwrite it with 3000 on startup.

Let me know if more details are required.

This doesn't just apply to dedicated servers. Seems to be across-the-board. It sets the server view distance to 'custom' no matter what, and that custom is 3-5km

Hi, I am one of the testers in keen :)

Player View distance on servers is capped to server sync distance. This is for performance reasons on both sides. However this should NOT work like it for voxels, where for voxels there should be an internal formula that decides what the player can see and cannot see depending on the server sync distance and the size of the voxel. It is currently broken and we are going to have to take a more thorough look at it.

Thanks for your reports and have a nice weekend,

You didn't read what I wrote, V01T45... this is a recent change. It also happens NOT ON DEDICATED SERVERS.

ALL versions of Space Engineers, regardless of your settings - whether that's SP or MP or DS - limit your view distance to 3km.

Have patience guys. Keen fixes more bugs in a week than most developers fix in a year. They'll squish this one.

This should be fixed in v188.1. Please test it and let us know.

Thanks!

It seems to be fixed, but on old worlds you have to set the view-distance back to your desired value manually.

You should have left a not about that in the patch notes as this issue doesn't solve itself by just updating.

it still happens to me when i set my voxel quality to extreme.setting it to high seems to fix it though.

I did some experimenting with the graphics settings, and here are the results...

my view distance is set to 15km and the vesion is 1.192.104 btw.

with voxel quality set to extreme asteroids are only visible up to 5km unless you use a camera/turret.

but with voxel quality set to high (or lower), the asteroids render in at the view distance specified in the world settings.

on new offline worlds grids seem to adhere to the view distance, while on private, friends or public words grids become invisible beyond 3km(heard this is caused by a hidden setting called Sync Distance). and on older worlds grids become invisible beyond 5km.

also on older worlds asteroids can stay visible up to 58km no matter the view distance with voxel quality set to high.

conclusion

asteroids don't render correctly beyond 5km when voxel quality is set to extreme.
