[DS 1.187.088] Server downloads unknown mods from workshop at random

Siliconpot shared this bug 6 years ago
Solved

So every now and then, without any clear indication as to why, the DS upon starting starts to download more mods than are listed - many more.

Yesterday the server hanged after some 18000 extra mods had been downloaded and 31GB of memory were in use by the server exe (I hadn't been observing). Today now twice have I seen the server just adding more and more mods to download - some which I have never even heard of. After a few hundred extra I've ended the process.

In these cases the log seems to end at the first row.

I Have a dedicated server through Pingperfect and have also seen this also and it tends to happen at least for my server when a peer uses the auto reconnect on a server crash or server restart today it download 707 mods at 7gigs yesterday downloaded 333 mods from the workshop luckly enough I stopped the server both times. Also since this is the same field of field of things server hangs for roughly 7+ mins at this section every time right before it checks mods for updates so not sure if same ballpark of issue.

(when server decides to download every workshop item)

How many mods did you initially start with? The DS now has a VERY BUGGY feature that checks for mod dependencies on startup. If any of your mods have dependencies, it will go and try to download them. However, it is extremely unstable, and every time you start the server, you have to remove the dependencies from your modlist and let it check again. Otherwise it may get stuck trying to check dependencies. See the issue I reported here: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/general/topic/issues-loadingstarting-world-that-has-mod-dependencies

Same issue here only 64 mods in mod list but now theres 510 mods in folder, keeps trying to download entire workshop it seems?

this is normal, since the MP major, mod dependancy checking is a thing, if one mod has another mod listed as a dependancy, it will get downloaded automatically, and it is best to remove the 'dependancy' mod from your mod list, as this makes the game/server hang on Server Policy Response (1)

and now i see this has just been said by someone else lol, oh well cant hurt to repeat good info :)

not normal when DS this morning downloaded 998 mods at 23gigs. ever since then my DS can no longer download mods cleared all mod files and content folders.

One would wonder if Steam would eventually revoke workshop access to Space Engineers due to this bug.
