Drilling sound issues, looping, volume spikes.

Nybbl er shared this bug 4 years ago
Won't Fix

Sometimes when drilling the sound of the player tool will loop after drilling is stopped, the volume changes as you move around near where you were drilling and sometimes spikes to painfully loud levels for a second or so. This looping can continue for up to five seconds after you stop drilling.

It's hard to catch this effect on a recording but I will update this post if I manage to do so.

This has happened over many worlds on different servers for me for months.

I always use realistic sound setting where possible but haven't been able to find if that is the source of the issue. This issue always happens while drilling the voxel material, I have not observed this effect above ground or while operating the drill without touching voxel material.

My hunch is that this could be a bug with realistic sound reverb while using the tool.

Here I managed to record the bug. The volume spikes are actually uncomfortably loud.

The echo also lingers far longer then it should if that is even intended to linger at all.

Hello,

Could you please provide us with more information regarding the issue you reported? How often does it happen? Does it happen only in MP?

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Kind Regards

This issue happens in both single player "offline" worlds and online worlds. Though it seems to only happen on worlds that have realistic sound option enabled. I have yet to run into this issue on an official server with arcade volume. Have not tested official servers with realistic settings but in the experimental p2p server and single player it happens for me. It happens almost every time I'm drilling but below the surface only. It does not seem to happen while I am drilling on the surface, only when voxel material is above / surrounding my character. I believe it's an issue with the realistic sound reverb or other echoing effects.

I only been playing for about 3 weeks, this is not a big issue. My issue is falling into the earth! over and over again while walking. But i have had an issue with sound while drilling, it stops and i don't hear anything. never thought it was an important issue so i did'nt bother coming here till i started to fall into the Earth over and over while walking! ;P

It doesn't really matter if an issue doesn't seem to be a big deal, you should report any bugs you want fixed. This issue for me breaks a feature of the game, the "Realistic Sound" mechanic is broken in this way when I use it, it's annoying so I've stopped using the feature, I would prefer to use the feature as I enjoy it's working components, hence the issue.

I forgot about this thread for a while, I recorded a clip some time ago but forgot to upload it to the forum it seems.

This happens to date though. Here is the clip, the recorder doesn't do the volume much justice but the spikes are actually pretty painful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVjYBL1a2n8

The issue is the spikes in volume and the weird echo / loop. It happens frequently for me when mining on realistic sound settings only. I like the realistic sound but have stopped using it because of this issue.

I run the latest version of Windows 10 Home, this issue has persisted through many updates.

I own the game on steam and all the DLC. This happens on any voxel material, in and out of atmosphere on realistic sound settings. It happens with any hand drill, not ship drills.

If it's hardware related it's either due to my CPU or motherboard as all other components have been changed and the issue persists. I run a Intel I5 7600 and a Gigabyte H270 Gaming 3 motherboard.

Greetings Nybbl er! I was playing around with my audio settings and was able to greatly reduce the annoying and loud sound loops while using tools in realistic. It isn't full proof but the difference is night and day. I made sure my sound options were reset to default, then I selected the spacial sound option (I use headphones) and BAM! I think it had more to do with using the different sound options, Spatial sound (Windows sonic for Headphones for me personally).

Soo if you right click your speaker in the lower right (default) and go to the third option down (it may be off by default), look to see if there are other sound options available in that section and give them a try.

I also enjoy playing with realistic sounds, I was also in the process of submitting a bug with sound and video, played around with the sound options and have been unable to reproduce the troubling/loud sound loop in realistic since changing those settings mentioned above.

I hope this helps and you can enjoy realistic sounds again, cheers.

I'm afraid I already use windows sonic and still get the issue. Thank you for your comment though.

Hello, Engineers!

As this thread is rather old as well as last comments, I need to ask if you are still experiencing this issue nowadays.

I was not able to reproduce it on current (v197.170) game version. Not even when following all things written here - in day, during night, underground, windows sound settings...

Is this still problem for any of you, please? Or can you confirm that it was fixed in the meantime?

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineers!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind Regards
