Conveyor sorter disallowing hydrogen stockpile

I'm on small grid, and right above my connector I have a conveyor sorter. NOT a small conveyor sorter, but the small grid conveyor junction variant. This block will not allow transfer of hydrogen into the tanks downstream of it.
If I replace the conveyor junction (sorter) with a conveyor frame stockpile works fine. I've tried replacing hydrogen tanks, the sorter, and the connector. I've also tried on various servers/save games.
Please feel free to ask more questions. I could also post the ships bp in the workshop if that would help
