Controller/Gamepad UI showing up on top of old UI

Aaron Fisher shared this bug 4 years ago
Won't Fix

First of all, love the way the controller support is looking with the Anniversary update. However, the UI for the controller stuff shows up whenever I use the left and right stick and flashes between that and the original UI. If you see the screenshots they show both, keep in mind these two screenshots are constantly flashing between each other. One thing to note, it seems to only happen when the stick is pushed all the way, if I keep the stick near the center but enough so I walk slowly the controller UI doesn't appear.

Hello Engineer,

This sort of behavior happens when there is simultaneously input from a gamepad AND keyboard and mouse.

Usually when one of those methods of input is mechanically stuck (button stuck, key stuck, etc...).

Try checking your method of input for stuck keys/buttons and if that does not help, go to Options->Controls->Controllers and in the drop-down menu named Joystick or gamepad select the Disabled option.

Bear in mind, that the gamepad will no longer be recognized automatically and you will have to manually enable it again in order to use it instead of keyboard and mouse.

If the keys/buttons are not stuck and your gamepad is calibrated, then please respond here to make us aware.

We hope that helps and wish you a nice day,

Keen QA

I'm having the same issue, I've tried all the above suggestions and that didn't work and also the run function (10 M/S), hasn't been working since the 193.020 update

The problem is still unresolved, but it definitely exists. Please investigate and fix it, thanks.

That was my assumption, that it was registering as mouse & gamepad input at the same time as I've seen similar issues in other games before. However in this case I was only using the gamepad (not bumping the mouse) and this only occurs when the gamepad joysticks are at the outer edges of their range, not when they're closer to the center.

I've already checked to make sure the steam controller input/remapping was disabled but I'll look more closely into that. I also tried re-installing the game in case there were any settings made previously to this update that may have carried over.

Is there anywhere other than the %AppData%/Roaming location that save data may be stored? I had previously used the steam controller remapping to be able to get Space Engineers to work with my controller before support was officially added and I strongly believe this is a symptom of that sticking around?

It was an issue with Steam. When I went into the Space Engineers Properties page on Steam and change the "Steam Input per-game setting" to 'Forced Off' it resolved the issue.

I have a steam controller and when I try using it the overlay keeps flashing as described also it ignores any input also whenever the controller is on the menu selection marker goes to the top of each open menu even preventing mouse and keyboard input I have to turn off the controller in order to change any settings there is no issue with the controller it works as intended with other games

I have the same problem with my Steam controller. And the Dualshock 3 also behaves the same.

Both controllers works perfectly with any other game supporting xbox controllers.

So clearly an issue with Space Engineers

I set the Steam Properties for Space Engineers to "Forced off" as well and that solved much of the issue using a controller on PC, but I still have this flickering of the UI as if it is constantly receiving keyboard or mouse input, even when I am not providing keyboard or mouse input.

I even tried disconnecting my mouse and keyboard and the issue persisted. So maybe it is some driver, but I am only speculating.

I have changed from a Logitech G13 to a Razor Tartarus Pro and even disabled those and killed the apps that accompany them and this issue still persists. Whatever it is does not play nice with controller support, which is annoying as hell. I actually like the controller for most things, with the exception of driving wheeled vehicles. And if that were fixed, I would use the controller almost exclusively.

I have the same problem!

I am sure I did not operate the keyboard and mouse, but it still happened!

This has seriously affected the gaming experience.

I didn't have this issue. Have just switched from an Nvidia to AMD GPU today and it has started for me. It's no longer playable via gamepad because the flickering causes the radial menus to disappear immediately. I've tried disabling all AMD overlays and the input anti-lag feature but the problem persists.
