comms tab comms scroll viewport always jumps to top at new message

Solved

Hello there,

today I was checking older messages that I have missed on our pvp server.

The newest messages are always on the bottom of the list. But every time a new Message appears the scroll bar is reset to the top of the List.

This makes this whole feature very hard to use as it is really frustrating to read and work with. I would expect the list the be on the bottom location all the time and stopp auto scrolling once I manually move the scrollbar to some different position.

And every time it auto jumps, your message in text field is sent even when you haven't finished typing it

This isn't even new, it has always been broken like this.

Yet another example of how atrociously bad the in-game chat features are. But this "jump to top" "feature" is present on many of the scroll lists, such as the assembler queue.

Oh hey, this bug is six months old, but it happens in the new chat interface they've made too. Except it's even more annoying there because you have to hold down pagedown to fix it, since you can't grab the scroll bar.

Hello!

I have been unable to reproduce this as chat is showing with messages are on the bottom as you mentioned, but the scroll bar is also at the bottom. Could you please test this in the newest version 1.197.072?

Kind regards

Hello Laura,

thank you for checking on the Issue. Since this bug report is over 2 years old by now, it is of course likely that it was fixed in the meantime. Therefore I checked it again with the latest build as requested.

Whenever a new message is sent the scrollbar now indeed jumps to the bottom instead of the top. So this is a massive improvement over the previous state from 2 years ago.

However I verified that when I manually scroll up to read older messages each new message will just automatically cause the scrollbar to jump down again. This makes reading older messages is a bit hard still. To improve on that, auto scrolling could be temporarily disabled while the user manually scrolls in the list, similar to how discord handles it. Alternatively an explicit on/off auto scroll switch could be added.

But this would rather be a feature request and not a bug report. From my point of view there is no further actions required on this report. I would be very happy if you could resolve it as fixed for me.

Thank you and have a nice evening.
