closing parachutes via timer block doesnt work

i created an orbital cargo drop pod equipped with a sensor, two parachute hatches, a couple timers, and autopilot+ thrusters etc. the drop pod is set:
activate actions after set time, turn on autopilot, activate thrusters, gyro. disable auto deploy parachutes, close parachute hatches (both in group and individually with no avail).
when selecting the "close parachutes" option manually it properly cuts the chutes. timers seem ineffective at such function.
