Cant use a friends ship to complete acquisition contract

Hi! I play Space Engineers with a friend. We’re in the same faction. He built a ship. I have almost complete access to the ship: I can fly it, move items into and out of its inventory, and even take items out of the ship into my personal inventory. I accepted an acquisition contract for 35 hydrogen bottles, only to later be told, on trying to complete the contract, that I couldn’t because I could only complete contracts using items held in inventories I own—and it’s impossible to hold 35 hydrogen bottles in my personal inventory at the same time.

This makes no sense. I can take the items out of the ship myself, so I should be able to use them to complete the contract when it’s docked up at the NPC base as well!

I have this issue but with my own ships. I own them but only my personal inventory displays when I try to sell anything.

Another player with the same ships, created in the same manner, has no issues on the same trading post.

I see this is a 7 month-old issue - any further updates on this that have not been posted?
