Can't even get past the toturial: Deadly elevator

In "mission 2" on the moon base, I keep being killed by the elevator. I think it's when the acceleration makes me collide with the elevator. Tried three times now, with no luck.
I have the same bug
The same happened to me on my old notebook. Could it be that this is framerate dependent?
I eventually moved into the door frame where your freedom of movement is more limited and survived.
This never happened on my PC with more recent hardware, so I was wondering if that plays a role.
