Build Planner fails to deposit into Piston or Rotor head

Attempting to deposit components into a piston head with the (default Shift-MMB combo) will not deposit any components, even if the piston base is part of a grid with adequate storage. However, depositing components into, say, a drill (which cannot contain components) placed on the piston head will correctly deposit the components into the storage of the grid on which the piston is based.
This can also be reproduced with advanced rotors.
