Bug with Scripts on custom Respawn ship mods

william A Tapp shared this bug 3 years ago
Won't Fix

I have recently created a personal mod for a respawn vehicle of my creation. When creating this grid, I had set up a script to run on it. I was sure to set the grid ownership to "Nobody" and then created the mod. Upon creating a new game and adding my mod and putting on the advanced setting to turn Scripts on, it kept spawning the original earthlike respawn pod instead of my custom respawn vehicle

It was not until hours of trial and error when I decided to just for once not put the enable scripts setting on for the world that it worked. I was able to recreate this several times. Any time I enabled scripts it would spawn the vanilla pod and when I disabled scripts it would spawn my vehicle.

I decided to remove the programable blocks from my grid and make a different mod without the programable blocks. This now works 100% of the times now that there is no programable blocks, it will spawn my custom vehicle.

I am assuming this may be happening due to the respawn system not being built for programable blocks and having to recompile grids as they spawn as most/ all scripts need the grid to be owned by a single player in order to function. Guessing the current respawn system is not made to factor in needing to recompile a programable block upon respawning.

Wondering if this has been brought up before and if anyone has ever looked into this or if there is a work around for this "bug"

Since this is more of an issue with modding support, I would not say this is a vanilla game issue at all but something I am sure that server admins would like to have work.

As of now, if I left my scripts on my grid but did not enable scripts on my game and then loaded in with my custom vehicle, it would spawn, i can save and exit and then enable scripts and rejoin my game and still have my vehicle. However if you were to try this on a sever that had respawn vehicles despawn after logging out, this would be impossible to overcome.

Hello, William,

thanks for sharing this issue with us. It´s really interesting one.

Can I please have the mod, so I can try it on my own? Am I understanding it right, that the mod is all I need? Just add it to Mods in Advance Setting when choosing the game, right? Shall "work" (be broken) on any game using drop pod.

You can either paste it here in zip file or publish it on Workshop and share the workshop page here.

Thanks in advance for providing it.

Kind Regards
