Ability to breath O2 from passenger seat outside vehicle (small grid)

On our save we are able to breath oxygen from passenger seat on the outside of our vehicle. We tested this with our helmets open. we are pretty sure its not supposed to happen.
Ship had: cockpit, passenger seat on exterior, o2/h2 gen, o2 tank, hydrogen tank + thrusters etc.
1) place Passenger Seat on small grid vehicle
2) fly to space with passenger in passenger seat (with helmet open)
3) observe no damage taken, no oxygen is used from tanks etc.
