Random black screen flashes during gameplay

David vd Bergen shared this bug 20 days ago
Solved

While playing, randomly my screen goes black for a second and returns to normal. It is just a couple of frames and does not affect anything but it is very annoying.

When I try to record the issue with Nvidea screen recording it does not show!

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for reaching out on our forum regarding this issue.

Unfortunately, we do not have enough information to investigate the reported behavior. Could you please provide us with the following details?

  • Does the issue occur in Fullscreen, Borderless, or Windowed mode?
  • When did you first notice this issue? Has it been occurring for a longer period of time, or did it start only recently?
  • Besides updating the game, have there been any other changes to your system around the time the issue started (for example, a graphics driver update, Windows update, new hardware, or monitor/display settings)?
  • Does it happen only in Space Engineers, or have you noticed similar black screen flashes in any other games or applications?
  • If you are using multiple monitors, does the issue still occur when using only a single monitor?

Next, please let us know your GPU model and the version of your graphics driver. Also please provide us the complete "SpaceEngineers_date_time" log from a session where the issue occurred, in its original .txt format.

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Additionally, since you mentioned that the black screen flashes are not visible in NVIDIA screen recordings, if possible, could you record the issue using a phone or another external camera? This may help us determine whether the issue is related to the game's rendering or the display output itself.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards,

I fixed it, I thought it was a Vsync issue, but after turning that of it was still happening. Turns out it was the Nvidia app which wanted to inject its own "best settings" for the game, and this had Vsync turned on. After tur ing this off everything was ok again.

Weird, have been playing SE for many many years and never had this issue. Maybe something changed in recent Nvidia drivers.

Issue is resolved, you may close the ticket.

Keep up the great work!
