Solved

Dear Keen,

I am reaching out for assistance with getting Space Engineers to run properly.

I recently did a complete reinstall of the game after deleting my plugins, but I am still having trouble getting it to work. Could you please provide guidance or troubleshooting steps on how to resolve this and get back into the game?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Hunter Krause

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for reaching out on our forum with this.

Based on the attached error message image, it appears that a game file or file path may be missing or corrupted, preventing the game from launching properly.

To begin with, could you please verify the game files through Steam? To do this, Steam Library → Right-click Space EngineersPropertiesInstalled FilesVerify Integrity of Game Files. Please wait until the verification process completes successfully.

Additionally, please try deleting the SpaceEngineers.cfg file.

  • This will reset your game settings, but a new SpaceEngineers.cfg file will be created automatically the next time you launch the game.
  • You can find the file by typing %appdata% into the Windows search bar. This will take you to the hidden Roaming folder. From there, navigate to, Roaming\SpaceEngineers and delete the SpaceEngineers.cfg file.

Once you've completed these steps, please launch the game again and let us know whether the issue still occurs.

Done and done. Same error screen (0x3) "Failed to find path specified." I did a reinstall and had steam recreate a shortcut, but the game gives the same bug whether opening it from the .exe, the Steam page, or the newly made shortcut. It also seems like the .cfg file failed to recreate even after system validation.

Hello Engineer,

We're sorry to hear that verifying the game files didn't resolve the issue.

To continue troubleshooting, could you please try performing a clean installation of the game? Although you've already reinstalled it, a clean installation is a more thorough process that removes any leftover files before reinstalling.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers and copy the Saves and Blueprints folders to a different drive or folder.
  2. Uninstall the game.
  3. Remove any remaining files from the following locations:
  • \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers
  • \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers

After completing the above steps, reinstall the game through Steam. Before launching the game, please make sure you don't have any Launch Options set or any plugins enabled. You can check this by going to Steam Library → Space Engineers → Properties → General → Launch Options (see the attached image).

Once confirmed, launch the game directly from your Steam Library and check whether the issue persists.

If the issue is resolved, you can move your Saves and Blueprints folders back to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

If the issue still occurs after the clean installation, please check whether a new game log file (named SpaceEngineers_) has been created. If so, kindly share the latest one with us so we can investigate further.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Hello again!

The issue has been resolved. It seems I still had a command in the advanced launch box. I did do a clean install, but nothing changed. However, as soon as I cleared the box described in the photo everything began to work again.

Thank you very much!
