Invisible voxels official servers 1.209

Investigating

Sometimes asteroids become invisible and people wreck their ships colliding with them.

I have 2 recordings,It happens a lot more often, i just did not record. in both i was scouting for ore in suit alone.

When i found the ore i wanted i mined up a little with my hand drill, and returned with my ship to mine up some more. So this might be a way to replicate it, when the asteroid has been changed and player leaves the area to return later.

Filling in some details about similar issue I recently had.

Platform:

PC, Server Keen EU#3

Description:

Asteroid, previously visible, became invisible after returning to it from greater distance (+20km). Creating a collision (understand as my ship fly into it and exploded) instantly showed the entire asteriod. It was not iceroid.

I observed no rubber-banding, which probably means the physics was correct on both server and client and the issue seems to be related just to client rendering (I might be wrong tho).

I too am experiencing a similar issue. Twice I have lost ships due to invisible asteroid.

Platform: PC, Server Keen, CA#3.

Description: Some times, when I jump from our faction station (50km away from the moon) to one of the NPC stations orbiting it (Arlington Station) I have noticed no asteroid is to be seen. Since I've destroyed a couple of ships already, I've taken the GPS coordinates of the crash sites and only them I realized the asteroids won't render. During the same session I can jump elsewhere and asteroids will render.

Reloading the game (F5) doesn't work. Changing graphics settings doesn't work. I read on Keen Discord the ability to render a voxel is client related. All I'm missing is getting rid of the cache to see if that works.

A bit more data about my case:

My problem is Moon-related, I can jump everywhere else and spot asteroids, but as soon as I jump to a moon NPC station, no rocks to be seen. Already lost 2 ships around that area.

When jumping to the moon, I usually pop 1.5km to 2km after a jump to Arlington Station (trader), after conducting my business I fly off, that's the part that has killed me once. I flew too far off and smashed an invisible asteroid around 6-7km from the trader.

During the last event, I did a rover spawn to the moon since I was carrying zone chips. The asteroid was then visible, but I suspect it had to do with the floating debris.

Same Problem. The asteroid is physically there, but just doesnt render until it gets damaged.

This is very problematic since you basically never know if there is something in front of you or not.

As of today, I couldn't recreate the issue. It seems the asteroid I crashed into is no longer there. First, I visited the crash site with my suite alone and nothing. For my second try I took a large grid ship and again, nothing.

Update: I've noticed that the invisible asteroid I crashed into was located in a very unusual location, only 7km from the moon surface (GPS:Crash site!:7624.02:128423.8:-124429.25:#FFF17575:), which makes me believe that it was an encounter asteroid that failed to despawn. I've realized (with no real confirmation from Keen) regular asteroids tend to spawn about 20km from the moons' surface.
