Constant stuttering on a new save

Won't Fix

After about an hour on any new save the game will start stuttering, My PC specs should be more than enough to handle the game, but even on the lowest graphics settings the game stutters. (I have not downloaded any mods, the game is vanilla and on a fresh save)

To better understand the current situation of the issue, could you please share a bit more detail?

Did this start happen recently, or has it been there from the beginning?

Is the game installed on an internal or external drive?

Do you have any background apps running that might be affecting performance? If so, please try closing them (you can use Task Manager to End Task unnecessary processes) and check again.

Are there any pending updates for your OS or graphics drivers? Please make sure everything is up to date.

Does the stutter happen in specific situations (e.g. building complex grids, high PCU, etc.)?

You can also try changing the following in-game settings that might help:

  • Toggle Vertical Sync (Options → Display → Vertical Sync On/Off)
  • On this same window, check and make sure the correct dedicated GPU (like AMD/NVIDIA) is selected in the Video Adapter dropdown. Also, use a recommended aspect ratio (marked with *** in-game) under Video Mode

After trying the above, please check if the issue still occurs.

If it does, please try these steps as well;

Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg

If the issue still occurs after trying the above step, please send us the log file (named as SpaceEngineers_) from the time the issue occurred. And a screenshot or screen recording with Shift + F11 (performance overlay) enabled. This will help us investigate the issue further.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
