Collector not collecting wheat out in the wild.

DreadPirate shared this bug 20 days ago
Solved

In a survival world, I created a vehicle to drive around and collect food items to convert into seeds. The collectors are on the front and facing the ground. When I drive over fruit bushes, the fruit is collected and added to the vehicle inventory. When driving over wheat, it is not collected. It will still show on the ground, unless I accidently hit it with a tire. I can jump out and collect it manually without issue. I'm not sure if this is the same for vegetables and mushrooms, as there aren't really any around where I was testing this. I did have one mushroom log that didn't seem to get picked up but I couldn't test it because I ran over it.

Base on what I've seen on videos, this isn't the case for these items when they are in the farm plots, but also haven't verified that yet.

Hello Chad,

Thank you for reaching out on the forum with this issue.

We tried to replicate it on our side, and the collectors were able to collect wheat/grain, fruits, and mushrooms from forageable plants/items.

Just to confirm, did you try positioning the collector very close to (or almost inside) the wheat plant to see if it still doesn’t collect the items and if your grid has enough storage space to collect more items?

If it still doesn’t work, could you share a bit more information about the issue?

Does it occur in Single Player, a lobby, or a server?

Is the world/server modded (any active Plugins/MODs)?

If so, please try reproducing the issue in a new vanilla (unmodded) world/server and check if it still occurs. If it doesn’t, the issue is likely caused by one of the mods/plugins on the world/server.

However, if the issue still occurs in an unmodded world/server, please send us a screen recording/video showing the issue, along with the log file from the time the issue occurred, and the vanilla world save (if possible) where the issue happens. This information will help us investigate the issue further.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • You can access your world save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Here is what I found:

  • In an unmodded fresh world, I was seeing the same behavior where fruit would be picked up but wheat would not.
  • Increased all wheel offsets to highest setting and saw same behavior.
  • Set rear wheel offsets to lowest setting and front wheels to highest, and it finally picked up the wheat.
  • Left rear wheel offsets at lowest setting and slowly worked up from lowest setting till it was able to pick the wheat, which ended up being setting the front wheels to 0 offset.
  • Verified same behavior in modded world where I initially saw the issue.

So it does work, it just that the collector has to be a lot closer to the ground then when collecting fruit. I would guess it is the same for vegetables and mushrooms, as I know i was able to replicate the behavior with vegetables as well. If that is expected behavior, that's unfortunate as having it set that low increases the chance that the front breaks when going over a hill or bump (did it during testing). I can however work around it by adding a control to the vehicle toolbar to adjust the setting only when getting close to a plant.

Do with this as you will and I'll make the adjustments on my side. Thanks for reviewing.
