HELP ME!!! The game won't launch!

Investigating

After the Steam and Space Engineers update that arrived on November 1, 2025, the game won't launch. When loading the game, it reaches 89% and a "Space Engineers has crashed" window pops up. It's always at the same loading percentage. While the game would launch intermittently after November 1, 2025, jumping over the 89% loading barrier, after the update that arrived on November 24, 2025, the game won't launch at all. It can't get past 89%. I searched the forums for a solution, but nothing helped. I deleted all the mods, but it still won't launch. I tried running it from various previously saved backups, but it still won't launch. I updated the video card driver and installed all Windows updates. Windows Defender has made the appropriate exceptions for Space Engineers. There are no other antivirus programs running. There are no boot scripts. The line there is empty. My system:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS with Radeon 780M Graphics (4.00 GHz)

RAM: 64.0 GB

System type: Windows 11 64-bit operating system, x64 processor

What could be wrong? How do I roll back Steam updates and Space Engineers updates? How do I launch the game?

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for reaching our forum with this issue.

From the logs you've provided and sent through the normal report system, we can see that the world you're trying to load contains the following mods:

Name = 'Milky Way Skybox (insane resolution)'

Name = 'Nanobot Build and Repair System'

Name = 'Stone Duster'

Name = 'Hangar Door'

Name = 'Speed'

Name = 'Ore Detector ++ no working DLC APEX'

Last mod specifically indicates that there seems to be some sort of issue with it starting with the Apex update.

Could you please do the following for us:

  • Start a new world without any mods from the New Game screen
  • Upload the world you're trying to start as a zip file to this thread

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department

I did everything as you asked. After deleting all the mods, I launched a new game. It opened very quickly, and it's working and playable. I saved it, archived it, and sent it to you.

I knew a NEW game was opening. My game, which I've been playing for a year, isn't opening.

This archive contains frame-by-frame information about the MOD deactivation. Loading error files are also included.

I don't know what could be wrong. I deleted the configuration file. Deleted all the cache. But the game stubbornly hangs at 89% loading. There's some kind of magic number, this 89% loading. Yesterday, by chance, it went over 89% and the loading reached 100%. I played for a bit. Everything worked, all the mods worked. I saved. Exited the game. And now I can't log back in again. The same 89% loading.

Out of about 100 times the game is launched, the game will launch once and be at least playable.

I forgot to mention that the NEW game opens with or without MODs. I don't think the MODs are the issue. All MODs work in the new games. However, my old game won't load! When, in exceptional cases, my old game launches, I try to save it several times under different names so that I can later experiment with loading.

Although, it's possible the MOD is faulty, because no matter what game I'm playing, the MODs tab in the game settings takes 2 to 3 minutes to open... That's incredibly slow. It's just that long to check which MODs are enabled.

I finally entered My World! It took me 101 tries, but I finally entered My World!

Already in My World, using Alt-F10 in the admin menu, I cleared out the trash in My World, deleted several previously built objects, deleted all the "foreign" ships, saved the changes, and exited the game. I rebooted my computer. My World loaded easily again, exceeding the magical loading threshold of 89%.

And that was a shame. Because, as it turns out, I can't build anymore, because if I start building further, My World will stop loading again, forever remaining at 89%. And sitting and simply staring at the world I've created isn't my style.

It's a shame that Space Engineers has so little space for building. My World currently weighs just over 800 MB. Compared to other games, it's not that big of a deal, since I have another game, and its saves take up 1 TB of space on my SSD. But it turns out that Space Engineers My World takes up over 800 MB—that's critical. Too bad. It was a good game.

After I learned that My World can no longer be developed, I lost interest in it. Thanks everyone for your help. This issue is closed.
