Steam PC pure vanilla, files verified, I've been using Ctrl-Space as "use tool" and it's been working really really well with the SE2-borrowed rotation keybinds… except the Core update broke it, ctrl-space still shows up as the binding but when I type it it gets ignored.
sorry, this was meant to be a bug, I searched for bug reports and somehow submitted feedback from the bug search page, redoing.
I have the same bug
Hello Engineer,
Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum.
In the recent 1.208 Core Systems update, we fixed an issue where the Left and Right modifier keys were not being recognized as separate inputs for keybinding. To bind a side-agnostic keybind now, you can hold both the left and right versions of the modifier at the same time while binding.
Could you please try re-assigning your keybinds and see if that resolves the issue? If it doesn’t, please send us your complete SpaceEngineers.cfg file located at \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers folder. That will help us investigate the issue further.
Kind Regards,

Turns out it's still broken in creative mode, just in a different way now. With creative tools off it does work, turn them on, …
If you redo the ctrl-space as "use tool" and use it to place new grid it works. If you ctrl-space to *extend* a grid, it half- (as in really-not-at-all-)works: you jump as if it ignored the binding instead of entirely ignoring the keystroke, but the new-block ghost remains attached where you wanted it placed, as if it was a selected projection ghost, but you can't weld it 'cause switching to the welder snatches the ghost away.

Hello Engineer,
Thank you for sharing the additional information.
We were able to reproduce the issue on our side and have reported it internally. During our investigation, we found that this issue also appears to be reproducible in the previous 1.207 version as well.
We’ll link this report to the internal ticket we’ve created.
Kind regards,
