Fusion reactor not implemented correctly

Simon-Pierre Dubé shared this bug 28 hours ago
Investigating

The new Fusion reactor is not detected as being the power provider. When no other source is available, there's a constant low fuel warning even with tanks full of H2 and plenty of ice.

When other sources of power are available, like connected Uranium, they take the load and waste Uranium.

Batteries are also drained as a result. All the load is sent on the batteries first and the fusion reactor don't replenish them when the load is too high, like a Safe Zone, prototech thrusters or jump drives, etc. With the efficiency being 80% or 90% for prototech batteries, it's a huge waste of fuel.

East to replicate. Just put a Fusion reactor, a battery, a safe zone at max setting and cockpit on a grid, start the zone, watch the battery bleed and warning being constant in cockpit.

Hello Simon,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum.

We tried to reproduce the issue using the same setup you described, a Fusion Reactor (with a hydrogen source), a Battery, a Safe Zone, and a Cockpit and the Fusion Reactor worked as expected on our side. As long as it had enough hydrogen, it continued supplying power correctly, even after the battery drained.

To understand what might be different in your case, could you let us know if you’re using any MODs?

It would also help to check whether the Fusion Reactor shows hydrogen consumption in the terminal and if hydrogen is actually being delivered to it?

Also, was your world/server running in Survival or Creative, and are there any custom world/server settings enabled?

If possible, please send us a screen recording/video showing the issue, and the blueprint of the affected grid if the behavior seems grid specific. And if there are any steps to reproduce the issue would also be helpful.

  • You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

Kind Regards,

Thank you for your answer.

Here's the bug, both on Vanilla Official Server CA#3 and in Survival local game, on two separate grids. I also attached a grid replicating the exact behaviour.

I also was under the impression the battery wasn't supposed to be used/drained if there was sufficient amount of power.

Maybe an option to be able to set specific reactors as primary power source would be a good idea, as when i have other power sources available, like every other grid connected, not only it's draining the power out of the batteries but it's using every single other reactors, spending Uranium on everything else.
