Middle axle steering inverting randomly in 6 wheel steer mode

Investigating

To clarify, I dont mean its changing in the control panel. All settings are exactly what I set them to when the bug occurs. I made the starter rover into a 6x6 and noticed an issue that seems to happen randomly where the middle axle inverts steering sometimes when I engage 6 wheel steer mode. The first time I simply inverted steering and it happened again shortly after. I assumed it was due to damage on the rear undercarriage, but even after repairs where made it later happened again with an empty load. I decided to keep tabs on it thinking maybe it has something to do with the weight distribution, but it is happening again with a full load this time. The world does have some light mods, but none that I would thing could effect grids behavior. I just have stuff like colorful icons, sleep mod, and build vision. You know, quality of life stuff. The bug is easy enough to work around with a hotbar toggle, but could cause gameplay issues when focus is the difference between all going well or clang claiming my grids

Hello Steven,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum.

Could you please confirm if the issue you're experiencing is the same as the one reported in this thread?

Invert of steering when changing vehicle mass | Space Engineers PC Support

If not, please share a bit more information about the issue, for example, a video/screen-recording showing the issue, along with the blueprint of the affected grid and steps that lead to it. This will help us reproduce the issue on our side and investigate it further.

  • You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

Kind Regards,

Hello Steven,

It’s been a while since we heard back from you.

Could you please let us know if the issue you’re experiencing is the same as the one described in the report we shared earlier, or if it’s something different? If it’s not the same, please share the information we requested in our previous reply.

Kind Regards,

If the center of mass is between two axles, steering tries to pivot around that. So if say ore is collecting at one end or the other the center of mass will move that way, and if it passes an axle that axle's steering will invert.

It's almost never what you want, I think steering angles should be set (by the player) so the wheels form an arc, so steering direction for interior steerable suspensions "should" be chosen to intersect as close to the intersection of the front and rear steering normals if that's clear.

Sry, been busy and forgot to reply. I think this is the issue and the reason it seemed to be random was because some of the items I loaded up weighed more than others and the center of mass was different in some cases. I will reconfigure my hot ars so I can toggle steering inversion as needed for now until it gets fixed
