PC gamepad & keyboard/mouse UI confliction
Since 2021 when I went from Xbox to PC 'Space Engineers' and when I play the game using an Xbox One S controller and recently a third-party Xbox 360 controller. The game UI once in a while would conflict with itself switching between the Xbox UI and PC UI. Not all of the time but like I said, 'once in a while' this seems to happen when I tab-out or bring up a window, often times I do these actions to check image references for a 'Space Engineers' build project that I am working on. At first, I thought this was mostly due to my Xbox One S controller left-joystick having the cursed and unfortunate 'joystick/con drift' but this issue just happened once, so far on my newly acquired unused third-party Xbox 360 controller.
Over these last few years, I have done everything that has been mentioned and posted in various forums or reports, from closing and reopening 'Space Engineers' & Steam, disabling/enabling gamepads in 'Space Engineers', disabling Steam overlays/controls, custom gamepad controller layout via Steam, and possibly some other attempts to fix the issue when it occurs. The only way this issue is temporarily fixed is by a PC restart, rarely a PC shutdown and leave alone until the next day works until the UI confliction happens again.

Attached is a video showing the confliction. WARNING: Rapid UI may be considered a flashing/strobing effect.
I have the same bug
*Issue has happened again as of this post. It occurred when I came back to the game after clicking and searching on my internet browser for references and watching videos & live streams. The game still has the UI glitch even after closing and reopening the game. Same issue persists after unplugging and plugging back in the controller.

I get this happening sometimes too.
I don't know what triggers it or have a reproduction, but I can typically get it to (temporarily) go away by locking (Win+L) then unlocking my computer. Note that this doesn't stop it from happening later, it just gets rid of it while it is happening. This isn't a solution, it's a bandaid.
I don't play using controller, but need to sometimes use one when testing mods. This typically means I am going in/out of the game window relatively often, so this may be a contributing factor (like Lokiawa tabbing out to check image references/etc).

Hello Lokiawa,
Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum.
Since you’re using a third-party Xbox 360 controller with the PC version of the game, please note that only Xbox One and Xbox Series X controllers are officially supported on PC. These should work without any issues with the game.
Regarding the issue you described, we have an internal report about a similar situation where pressing the controller’s middle Xbox button opens the Microsoft Game Bar overlay. After exiting the overlay, the game may continuously switch between keyboard/mouse and controller input modes, preventing normal gameplay actions such as walking, flying, or placing blocks. This behavior matches the issue shown in the video you shared. If you’re pressing the controller’s middle Xbox button during gameplay, that is likely what’s causing the issue.
Unfortunately, the only workaround for this issue at the moment is restarting the PC. We apologize that we can’t provide any further assistance with this specific problem, but we’ll keep this thread open in case you need any additional help or suggestions.
Thank you for your understanding.
Kind Regards,
