Crash to Desktop

Won't Fix

Latest hotfix (10/1/25)

During play, about an hour into a session, was holding a welder and went to swap to another tool. I hit F1 unintentionally, the game froze a few seconds and then crashed directly to desktop. No error dialog. Ugh.

Hello Morphy,

Thank you for reaching out on the forum.

Could you please share a bit more information about this issue?

Did it occur while playing in Single Player mode or on a server?

Did the crash happen only once, or can it be reproduced by repeating the same steps (holding a welder and pressing the F1 key)?

Does it happen only in a particular world or server, or in any world/server?

Please try the following steps and see if they help resolve the issue:

Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right-click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Same access as SpaceEngineers.cfg

If the issue still occurs after trying the steps, please send us the latest log file from the time of the crash. The log file name starts as, SpaceEngineers_

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Kind Regards,
