Thruster Damage Radius Changed
Good day,
I'm submitting this ticket approximately six months after I noticed a change with the thruster damage cone for large grid hydrogen thrusters. This has been a reoccurring issue on the Keen CA#3 server I play on since the patch which introduced the Fusion Reactor and other blocks, and I noticed it again today.
The specifics:
1. Large grid large thrusters have had a consistent damage/blast radius of six blocks directly behind the active thruster. Placing an object seven blocks from the end of that thruster type formerly kept that block from receiving damage.
2. This is no longer the case, as the blast radius now extends beyond the six block limit, typically to seven (and possibly eight) blocks.
3. This damage occurs slowly and often not at all if using thrust override controls, or actively accelerating upwards/forwards while in gravity.
4. The damage happens rapidly if decelerating/braking, or if pulsing dampeners while landing in gravity, due to the output power being demanded.
5. This change has only happened with Large Thrusters (specifically hydrogen) for Large Grid ships, and has not been observed with the one block sized ones. It doesn't seem to matter if they're industrial or vanilla thrusters.
I was able to test this again today, and noticed significantly more damage happening when landing, when pulsing thrusters, and almost no damage when lifting off. I am mostly curious if this was an intentional change, or if is something I stumbled across by accident. I spoke with other players, who confirmed similar experiences with their own ships taking unexpected damage over time in those areas.
Any clarity or insight on this you could provide would be appreciated, as modifying my ship would be a bear of a challenge.
Thanks!
