Custom world crashing my PC since Apex update

Investigating

I've been playing a custom world with some friends for several months now with relatively few problems. But since the Apex update, playing in that world keeps causing a Blue Screen of Death on my PC; it gives a Video TDR Failure message. I thought at first it might be a problem with multiplayer because I'd been playing solo saves just fine. But I have since played the custom world solo and crashed again.

I am using Windows 10 version 22H2 with a Steam install of Space Engineers. My laptop specs are as follows:

Processor13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13620H 2.40 GHz

Installed RAM16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)

Storage954 GB SSD NVMe Samsung SSD 970 PRO 1TB

Graphics CardNVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU (6 GB), Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)

I've attached the log and save files from my most recent crash. Hopefully that is enough for someone to help me get things working again!

Hello Allison,

Thank you for writing to us on the forum.

Unfortunately, we were unable to load the provided save file because it contains MODs that are no longer available.

Since you also mentioned experiencing a Video TDR Failure, please make sure your graphics drivers and operating system are updated to their latest versions, and then check if the crash still occurs.

If it does, we kindly ask that you review the active MODs in your world and remove any that are unavailable or not compatible with the latest version of the game, as they may be causing the crashes.

You can also try creating a new vanilla (unmodded) world to see if the issue still occurs, or remove all MODs from your current world (after making a backup of the original). Please note that even after removing MODs, some dependencies may remain in the save file, which could still cause crashes, but it is worth testing.

If the crash persists even in a new vanilla world and in your unmodded current world, please send us the crash log files from the sessions where it occurred. The log files are named SpaceEngineers_ and providing them will help us investigate further.

Kind Regards

Ah, my bad - there are two "friends-only" mods on that save. I'll see if I can remove them without breaking the save entirely and send a copy of that version.

As previously mentioned, it is only this game that is causing the BSoD. Vanilla saves and even modded ones with fewer entities are still working for me.

Turns out it was more than just 2 mods that aren't public, but I've removed them and their related entities. Still getting the BSoD.

I just got the same BSoD from a creative world with far fewer mods. Log attached, I'll send the game file after I get a copy from the friend that was hosting and have removed the non-public mods. Pretty sure the mods I'm removing aren't an issue, because I've been playing other worlds with them and not crashing.

Of note: other than the handful of mods found in this save, which I'm using just fine in other saves, there are only 2 things that all the problem worlds have in common: 1) they are multiplayer and 2) they were created by a friend.

Turned the latest world into an offline save and still got the blue screen. I am using all the remaining mods without issue in other saves. The only remaining variable is that my friend created all the worlds that are causing problems.

Aaaand now I'm getting a new problem. On the one hand, it's not crashing my whole computer, which is great. On the other hand, it is so far preventing me from loading or joining any SE saves I try so it looks like I can't play the game at all now. The game shuts down and gives me the attached error message.

Incidentally, Steam doesn't recognize that the game has stopped. I still have to hit the "STOP" button before I can restart the game.

Can confirm: I can't play any saves, even completely vanilla ones like I've attached here.

Got help on the Keen Discord. I just had to delete a corrupted file that occurred during the last blue screen. I can at least play most of my saves again!

Oh yes, definitely still having the issue. The part I got help with was a corrupted file that was left over from one of the BSoD crashes. Still no idea how to solve the Video TDR Failure.

As for new logs, I've been trying not to trigger the problem, for the sake of my hardware. The latest I've got are posted in this thread already (Multiplayer Build-o-Matic and the log dated Sept. 19).

Thanks!
