Multiplayer issue after update 1.207.021 stuck in spectator mode

Hello, Since the latest update (1.207.021 b0), my friend and I have been trying to play together to test the new survival mode overhaul.
When I join his game, I’m stuck in spectator mode (even with admin rights). He has some mods installed, so we tried hosting on my side without mods, but then he can’t join me at all.
Both of us are on the same game version. This happens even in a new vanilla world.
