Game stuttering or freezing every five seconds

Need More Information

The game ever since it was downloaded has done this. I had similar performance issues on xbox as well, but those were mostly due to item loads. I deleted all but my three grids in the admin (all less than 500 psu as its a pretty new save), turned all my graphics settings to low, disabled vsync, tried full screen and other modes, and dropped everything nonessential in task manager. I am not using a VPN nor do I have VPN software installed. Drivers are up to date, windows is up to date. Nothing fixes it and I'm tearing my hair out because I literally just redownloaded it after buying another DLC.

Specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6 Core

32gb DDR4

Nvidia RTX 3050

Game is installed on SSD

the only thing that alleviates the issue at all is to quit and reload the world. This only improves the issue for about two to seven minutes, then its right back to constant lagging/freezing.

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum. We're sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue.

Could you please try the following steps and let us know if the issue still occurs?

First, verify your game files in Steam:

  • Right-click Space Engineers in your Steam Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Next, delete your SpaceEngineers.cfg file:

This will reset your game configuration to default. To find it, type %appdata% into your Windows search bar, open the Roaming folder, then navigate to \SpaceEngineers and delete the SpaceEngineers.cfg file. The game will recreate it when you launch again.

Then, delete your ShaderCache folder:

  • It’s located in the same \SpaceEngineers folder as above.

After these steps, launch the game, start a new vanilla (unmodded) world, and check if the issue persists. If it does, please send us your log file (named as SpaceEngineers_) from the same AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers folder, from the session where the issue occurred.

Kind Regards,

Keen Software House: QA Department
